Get Ready for Fall: Preparing Your Stove and Ecofan for the Cold

As the days grow shorter and temperatures begin to dip, there’s nothing more comforting than the steady warmth of a wood stove. For Ecofan owners, this is also the perfect time to make sure your stove and fan are ready to perform their best throughout the heating season. A little preparation now means more comfort, efficiency, and peace of mind all winter long.

1. Give Your Stove a Seasonal Check-Up

Before lighting the first fire of the season, inspect your stove:

  • Clean the firebox and chimney to ensure safe, efficient burning. A buildup of creosote can reduce performance and increase risk.
  • Check door seals and gaskets to make sure they are intact and providing a proper seal.
  • Test your airflow controls so you can manage your fire effectively when the cold sets in.

A well-maintained stove not only keeps your home warmer but also helps your Ecofan perform at its best.

2. Inspect and Clean Your Ecofan

Your Ecofan is built to last, but seasonal upkeep ensures it continues to deliver silent, reliable heat circulation:

  • Dust the blades and base with a soft cloth to keep air moving smoothly.
  • Check placement on the stove surface — your Ecofan should sit on a flat, smooth surface, away from the stovepipe, to maximize efficiency.
  • Look for wear on older units and make sure the fan is still responding when the stove heats up.
  • inspect your Ecofan's motor during the first fire. If the blade seems to be running slower, you may want to consider replacing the motor with one of our motorkits.

3. Placement Matters

For best performance, position your Ecofan where it can capture the heat and distribute it effectively:

  • Place it on the top surface of your stove, ideally on the side rather than in front of the flue.
  • Ensure there’s clearance around the blades so air can circulate freely.
  • If you use more than one Ecofan, try positioning them in different directions to spread warmth more evenly through your living space.
  • Ensure that you're placing your Ecofan in a position on your stovetop that doesnt reach temperatures above 600°F. Excessive heat can damage the thermoelectric module and cause your ecofan to stop working.

4. Enjoy Efficient, Even Heat

With your stove tuned up and your Ecofan ready, you’ll enjoy:

  • More consistent room temperatures
  • Improved fuel efficiency
  • A quieter, more comfortable home

This fall, take a few minutes to prepare your stove and Ecofan — small steps that make a big difference once winter arrives.
