1. How many lumens do the 8 LED lights give off on the JOI Lamp?
When used with the JOI Premium Tea Lights, our JOI LEDs produce 77 lumens, with an apex angle of 100 degrees; this is equivalent to light emitted by 31 standard candles!
2. How does the JOI Lamp work?
The patented JOI Lamp design uses thermoelectric technology to convert a temperature difference into electricity. At the core of JOI Lamp is a unique thermoelectric module which takes in heat from the Premium tea light. Electricity is made through the “Seebeck Effect”, which happens when the module has a hot and cold side creating a current of electrons. The power generated is enough to activate the lamp’s eight LED lights until no more heat reaches the module.
3. My JOI Lamp seems to be brighter when I use it outdoors. Is that possible?
It certainly is. When used outdoors, the cooler, moving air allows the JOI Lamp to operate optimally.
4. Can I use my JOI Lamp indoors?
Yes you can! In fact, third party fire safety engineers have examined JOI and found it much safer than burning an open candle inside a home, and safe for use indoors when operating instructions are followed. So even though the JOI was designed and tested for outdoor use, we think it can be used anywhere.
5. The candle won’t stay lit when the door is closed on my JOI Lamp. What can I do?
The JOI Lamp requires draft airflow in order to work properly. Allow the candle to burn for at least 45 seconds (but no longer than a minute) before closing and latching the door.
6. Condensation is forming on the inside of the glass on my JOI Lamp. What can I do?
Condensation happens when heat meets cold glass and creates moisture. All you can do is allow the candle to continue burning, and once the glass warms up, the condensation will disappear.
7. I heard a loud snap and the candle on my JOI Lamp snuffed out. What do I do?
Your candle has been burning abnormally and has activated the JOI Lamp's safety feature. Wait approx. 4-5 minutes until you hear an additional snap signalling a reset of the safety feature. Change the candle, clean any soot buildup, and relight according to instructions.
